On December second, the streets of Sewickley Village filled with families and children who were eager to take part in the town’s annual kickoff for the holiday season, Sewickley Light Up Night, the beginning of the month-long Yuletide in Sewickley festivities.

Yuletide has being going on for many year now.  This annual tradition showcases activities for all ages.  On Light Up Night, the village was packed with people of all ages from the area.

Officer David Yurkovac of the Sewickley Police Department was on duty during the festivities of Light Up Night; however, he still enjoys the sights and sounds of Yuletide in Sewickley.  He said, ‘’If I wasn’t patrolling, I would definitely be here with family and friends.’’

For years, Sewickley has been kicking the season with lights and fireworks, but they are not the only things that create the holiday spirit.   Light Up Night also features bands, live reindeer, food vendors, and carriage rides for the family.

One local man named Ron said, “People aren’t just coming for the lights or the fireworks; they are coming to spend time with family and friends.’’ Ron brought his grandson Teddy to Light Up Night for his first time.

Two boys, Eric and Milo, had a similar perspective, saying that they have been coming for five or six years, and the main reason they do is to see their friends outside of school.

Yuletide in Sewickley is a great, season-long event that everyone can enjoy, gathering together as a town to get into holiday spirit together.
